A Track In Kajol’s The Trial Is Inspired By The Media Coverage Of Sushant Singh Rajput And Rhea Chakraborty

Kajol is making her streaming debut this year with The Trial, which has dropped on Disney + Hotstar today. The series is an Indian remake of The Good Wife and tells the story of a housewife who returns to the courtroom after a decade to exonerate her husband. Ever since it was announced, the show has been creating a lot of buzz on the internet and fans are really excited about it.

Now, there is a real-life parallel in The Trial. As we all remember the year 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the strict lockdowns that followed. On June 14, actor Sushant Singh Rajput‘s news surfaced all of a sudden and it sent shockwaves not just in Bollywood but across the nation. What followed was the massive and unethical hounding of Rhea Chakraborty by the media as she was held responsible for his death.

Real Life Parallels

Reports suggest that one episode of Kajol’s show deals with his unfortunate real-life incident. In it, Noyonika Sengupta (Kajol) delves into the mysterious death of cricketer Mohit Singh. His girlfriend Juhi is tried for the abutment of suicide. While in the show, the character is a cricketer, people were quick to draw parallels with SSR’s death and the eventual trial by the media faced by Rhea.

Not just that, the character is also based on journalist Arnab Goswami who was coming up with his own theories about the actor’s death. Daksh Rathod (played Atul Kumar) does the same with Juhi and runs a news channel called SNP News.
