This is the time for connected universes in Bollywood. Heavily inspired by the MCU and DCEU, now several universes are popping up in the industry. One of the biggest IPs has to be the Yash Raj spy universe, which started with Kabir Khan’s 2012 film Ek Tha Tiger. It was followed by the super-successful, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, and this year’s Pathaan. Most of these films are on the list of the highest-grossing projects in Bollywood of all time.
Now, Aditya Chopra is planning to further expand the universe. According to reports, YRF will be doing a project with Alia Bhatt which will be the first female-led film in the entire spy universe. “Alia Bhatt is one of the biggest crowd pullers in today’s time and she will be playing a super-agent in the YRF Spy Universe like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Shah Rukh Khan. Aditya Chopra and the team have planned an epic female-led spy film with Alia Bhatt which is expected to push her to the edge,” a source said.
Film to go on floor next year
Gradually in her career, Alia Bhatt has become one of the biggest stars as well as one of the finest actors in Bollywood. So YRF is trying to have her onboard to also cater to the female audience. The film, which is yet to be titled, will go on the floor in 2024. It will be the eighth film in the series as Tiger 3, War 2, and Tiger vs Pathaan are already announced. Salman is currently filming Tiger 3 with Katrina Kaif and the film will be released next year.
Pathaan was a major success
Shah Rukh Khan was missing from the cinemas for nearly five years. His last few releases like Zero and Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to make an impact. Earlier this year, SRK made a comeback with Pathaan. The film grossed over 1,000 crores and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. It also did good business in China and overseas markets.
