Aamir Khan Ties Junaid Khan’s Ek Din To His Debut Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak Legacy, Says He Wanted It As His Son’s Debut

Aamir Khan is not pitching Ek Din as just another old-school romance for the big screen. On March 11, 2026, as he unveiled the film’s official teaser and spoke about the project, the actor producer made it clear this one sits close to his heart for a deeply personal reason: he once envisioned it as son Junaid Khan’s first film, and he is now consciously linking its release to the memory of his own career-launching love story, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.

If the teaser leans into snowy tenderness and a quietly magical tone, Aamir’s comments placed Ek Din in a bigger emotional frame, part nostalgia, part legacy, and entirely intentional.

The Latest Update: Aamir Khan Reveals Why Ek Din Was Not Junaid’s Debut

Speaking at the teaser reveal, Aamir said, “Actually, I wanted this to be his first film,” adding that delays on his end changed the timeline: “But I take time [with production], so things moved differently.” Junaid eventually made his on-screen debut with Maharaj (2024) and then followed it up with his first theatrical outing, Loveyapa (2025), before arriving at Ek Din as his next major release.

Aamir also confirmed the sentimental logic behind the film’s release date. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak released on April 29, 1988, and Ek Din is locked for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release, positioned close to that anniversary.

What Ek Din Is About And Who Is Behind It

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, Ek Din is directed by Sunil Pandey and is an official Hindi adaptation of the 2016 Thai film One Day (directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun). The story centres on Junaid’s Rohan, a soft-spoken man in love with his colleague Meera, played by Sai Pallavi. During a work trip to Japan, he wishes for just one day with her. The catch is that the next morning, she will forget everything.

The film also reunites Aamir with filmmaker Mansoor Khan as a producing partner, extending a creative association that has long been identified with sincere, youth-forward romance in Hindi cinema.

Aamir praised Sai Pallavi, who makes her Hindi film debut here, saying, “I am so glad we finally went with Sai Pallavi. She is such a good actor, and she has done an amazing job.” The music is composed by Ram Sampath with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, and the title track is sung by Arijit Singh.

Aamir Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Aamir was last seen on the big screen in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022). Since then, he has remained active as a producer, including backing Laapataa Ladies (2024). On the acting front, he returned with Sitaare Zameen Par (2025), directed by R. S. Prasanna, which released theatrically on June 20, 2025 and later arrived on YouTube via a pay-per-view model. Up next, Aamir’s banner is set to bring Ek Din to theatres on May 1, 2026, with Junaid and Sai Pallavi leading the romance.
