Aamir Khan Opens Up On Not Charging A Fee For Laal Singh Chaddha: “Bilkul Sahi Niyam Hai Yeh”

Aamir Khan Reveals He Took No Salary For Laal Singh Chaddha, Says “Agar Film Nakaam Hui Hai, Toh Mujhe Hi Zimmedari Leni Chahiye”

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has shared that he didn’t take a single rupee for the 2022 release Laal Singh Chaddha, as it was disappointing at the box office. The actor opened up at the recent ABP Summit, stating that he has no regrets about making a bold choice in not taking fees, as it is in line with his values when films don’t work.

“Agar Film Nakaam Hui Hai, Toh Mujhe Hi Zimmedari Leni Chahiye”

As someone who is well known for taking a meticulous approach to filmmaking, Aamir explained that he only earned money when a film is profitable. As Laal Singh Chaddha was a failure, he had no remuneration due to technicalities in the agreements.

“Main paisa tabhi kamata hoon jab meri film safal hoti hai. Mujhe koi afsos nahi hai. Bilkul sahi niyam hai yeh. Agar meri film nakamyab hui hai toh mujhe hi zimmedari leni chahiye,” Aamir was quoted saying at the summit.

The Story Behind Laal Singh Chaddha & Its Struggles

Co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and directed by Advait Chandan, the film was the Hindi remake of Oscar-winning Forrest Gump. While there were a lot of expectations, the film resonated with neither the audience nor the critics and unfortunately struggled at the box office as it was deluged in the times of showcasing a boycott and mixed reviews.

Aamir Khan Respects Others’ Choices with Fixed Fees

While Aamir thinks he operates under an approach based on success, he cleared up that he respects all individuals who charge a fixed fee.

“Main jab kaam karta hoon toh mera saamne yeh nahi hota ki main 60 din kaam kar raha hoon toh mujhe aap itne paise de de. Woh meri soch hi nahi hai, kuch logon ki soch hai woh, badi professionally kaam karte hai ki main itne din aa raha hoon aap itne paise mujhe de de, phir chale na chale humko usse koi farak nahi padta,” he added.

This honest perspective shared by Aamir Khan emphasises his historic reputation as an actor so committed to the creative and commercial prospects of his films.

The Future: Aamir Khan’s Next Is Sitaare Zameen Par

Following a brief acting break after Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir is preparing for his upcoming release titled Sitaare Zameen Par. While it’s not a follow-up, the film is a spiritual sequel, as it carries the same emotional threads, Aamir stated.

This time the actor will be taking on a character who is more temperamental and flawed while also portraying experiences of redemption and growth.

The movie, which will be directed by RS Prasanna and stars Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary, is scheduled to be released on June 20, 2025.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict:

Aamir Khan has adopted a no-salary policy for his efforts for Laal Singh Chaddha—an admirable stance reflecting a deeper commitment to personal accountability and love for filmmaking. At a time when stars are all being pilloried for greedily charging hunks of cash regardless of whether a film is terrible or outstanding, Aamir sets a unique bar in professionalism. Now, as Aamir prepares to make what is sure to be a major comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par, fans and trade will soon see if the actor’s emotionally charged storytelling strikes gold again.
