Before 3 Idiots Sequel, Aamir Khan And Mansoor Khan Begin Work On One Adaptation

Aamir Khan’s next creative move is not a nostalgia-driven return to 3 Idiots, but a quieter reunion that could prove just as intriguing. The actor has confirmed that he is developing an adaptation of the 2016 Thai film One Day with Mansoor Khan, reviving one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished creative pairings for a new project titled Ek Din. For fans who have long associated the duo with formative classics like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, the update lands with real emotional pull.

What makes the announcement stand out is its timing. For months, conversation around a possible 3 Idiots sequel has hovered around Aamir’s future slate, but he has now made it clear that Ek Din is the project taking shape first. That gives the adaptation immediate significance, not just as another production venture, but as the film currently commanding his attention.

Why Ek Din Is Taking Priority Over 3 Idiots

Aamir has said that before any 3 Idiots sequel moves ahead, he and Mansoor Khan are focused on adapting One Day into Hindi. The film is titled Ek Din, with Mansoor attached as producer alongside Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Sunil Pandey is directing the project, while Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi headline the cast.

The original Thai film carried a tender romantic premise, built around a man who gets a rare chance to spend one unforgettable day with the woman he loves. That emotional foundation appears to have drawn Aamir and Mansoor toward the material, especially at a time when both are choosing to revisit collaboration through a story rooted in intimacy rather than spectacle.

The update also sharpens the current picture around Aamir’s slate. Instead of reviving an old franchise first, he is backing a fresh adaptation that allows his banner to move into a more emotionally driven space while still carrying the weight of a major creative reunion.

How Aamir Khan Productions Is Building Its Next Phase

Aamir was last seen in the theatrical release Sitaare Zameen Par, which arrived on 20 June 2025. Directed by R. S. Prasanna and co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, the sports comedy drama marked his return to the big screen after Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022 and performed strongly at the box office, grossing about ₹266 crore worldwide.

As a producer, he has been shaping a distinctly varied slate. Laapataa Ladies, released in 2024 and directed by Kiran Rao, earned strong critical acclaim and reinforced the banner’s reputation for backing content-led storytelling. Ek Din now fits into that same evolving strategy, with its romantic drama framework and a younger lead pairing in Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.

The next major confirmed theatrical title from Aamir Khan Productions is Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, which is scheduled to release on 13 August 2026. Taken together, these projects suggest that Aamir’s current phase is less about chasing familiar brands and more about building a carefully curated mix of mainstream presence and filmmaker-led storytelling.
