Aamir Khan & Rajkumar Hirani Reunite for Biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke
Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are set to reunite, and this time, it’s to take audiences into the cinematic legacy of the person that started it all. The duo have already changed what a successful Christmas box office run looks like, with 3 Idiots and PK, and will certainly do the same again with their next — a biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema.
Christmas 2026 Release Intended for Aamir-Hirani Project
According to exclusive sources, the makers have their eyes on the December 25, 2026, release window to continue their blockbuster tradition. As a source close to the project states,
“Whether you look at 3 Idiots or PK – Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani films have set new benchmarks of box office success during the Christmas weekend. The team is looking to continue that train with the intention of hitting a release during the extended holiday period.”
The film is expected to start shooting in October 2025 and wrap in April 2026, with a lengthy post-production schedule, complete with world-class VFX.
Pre-Viz, Period Detailing, and Acting Preparation Already Set In Motion
While the biopic is still untitled, preparations are already under way.
“The intent is to recreate the era, the late 1800s and early 1900s, perfectly, and the pre-visualisation process has already commenced,” the source adds.
“Aamir Khan is trying out numerous looks. As he is a perfectionist, Aamir will do acting workshops so he can properly prepare for his role as Dadasaheb Phalke.”
Interestingly, the VFX and previz work is also being done by some world-class LA-based companies, confirming the international scale of the film’s cinematic vision.
The Vision: A Humour-Fuelled, Slice-of-Life Comedy, With Historical Significance
The film is co-written by Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj and Avishkar Bharadwaj, and just like the Hirani brand, it intends to blend humour with high emotional drama. They have been developing the script for over three years, which speaks to their intention to honour the legacy.
“For Aamir and Hirani, this is a tribute to the man who gave India its very first film and they want to get everything exactly right,” said a source.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is also preparing for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, releasing on June 20, 2025. However, the attention is already turning to this highly anticipated collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani, which is bound to become a definitive part of their already debated legendary filmography.
