Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan recently opened up about the hurdles he faced while shooting the iconic opening scene of his 2014 blockbuster PK on a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The scene, where his character is seen in the buff, required Aamir to overcome various obstacles to capture the perfect shot.
Sharing insights from the conversation, Aamir revealed his initial apprehensions to the movie’s director, Rajkumar Hirani, regarding the filming of the daring scene. However, Hirani assured him by providing specially designed shorts to maintain his modesty during the shoot.
Aamir likened wearing these shorts to donning an abdominal guard in cricket. Additionally, Hirani proposed filming the scene in the remote deserts of Rajasthan to minimise the risk of any unwanted attention.

Despite these preparations, the shooting day brought unexpected challenges. The specially-made shorts failed to stay in place as Aamir ran, causing them to slip off repeatedly.
He said, “On the day of the shoot, I put on those shorts. I stepped onto the set with the radio. All phones were kept out of sight. I had to run in that scene. As long as I was walking, everything was fine, but when it came to running…(laughs). Whenever I ran, the shorts would slip off because they were taped on.”
Aamir added, “In that shot, I encountered numerous challenges. After a couple of tries, I said to Raju, ‘Hatta yaar’ (Let’s remove it). I was determined to nail the perfect shot. Therefore, I discarded the hindrance. I instructed everyone to move far away from the camera, and then I sprinted.”
Reflecting on his initial embarrassment about appearing nude on set, Aamir admitted feeling anxious about the scene. However, once the cameras started rolling, his focus shifted entirely to delivering a perfect shot, setting aside any discomfort or self-consciousness. “I used to feel ashamed just thinking about that scene. The idea of walking around naked on set felt strange to me. It’s not something we’re accustomed to. I was filled with anxiety about how I would manage it, knowing that everyone would be watching. I felt incredibly embarrassed. But once I stepped onto the set, my focus shifted completely to the task at hand. My shot was being affected, and I realized these worries were trivial. I turned to Raju and said, ‘Why make a fuss? What’s the big deal if you see me naked? We have to get the shot.’ Surprisingly, at that moment, I didn’t feel embarrassed at all. It was quite a shock to myself, actually,” said Aamir.
Aamir Khan On Playing An 18-year-old In 3 Idiots
During the same episode, Aamir Khan also disclosed his initial reservations about playing the role of an 18-year-old college student in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots. Despite turning 44 at the time, Aamir doubted his ability to convincingly portray a much younger character.
He confessed, “I wasn’t even doing 3 Idiots because I thought the public would laugh at me as I was turning 44 and I am playing the role of an 18-year-old boy. It would be weird.”
However, Hirani’s conviction and the script’s message resonated with Aamir, ultimately convincing him to take on the role. Hirani’s belief in Aamir’s ability to deliver meaningful performances, regardless of commercial success, persuaded him to trust the director blindly for the first time in his career.
Aamir recounted, “Then I thought Raju was a great director… this was the first time I went blindfolded because of him.”
Talking about his work front, Aamir will be making his long-awaited silver-screen comeback soon. he is currently working on Sitaare Zameen Par with Genelia Deshmukh.
