Aamir Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha has been released in the theatres on August 11. Since then, the film didn’t even perform basic at the box office. Based on the marketing and anticipation around the film, it was predicted that Laal Singh Chaddha would have a great opening and a great opening weekend. The film’s premiere was highly anticipated by the audience because it was expected to be this year’s biggest blockbuster. However, the film ended up being a great box office failure.
Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha hashtag is already trending by a lot of audience in the country on social media like Twitter. However, the film is doing well overseas, but its performance in India is unsatisfactory.
When Aamir was asked about the digital release of the film, he said, with early digital access to the movie via OTT platforms, he thinks that people would rather watch the movie at home in the comfort of their own homes than in a theatre. He said, “OTT is not a challenge to the cinema but we are actually making it a challenge. What we are saying is our films releasing in theatres, but you don’t really need to come. Because in a few weeks you can see it at home. How do you expect people to come to theatres?”
He further continued that he is not willing to sale the digital rights of the film by next six months, “Either you come to theatres and watch the movie now or wait for six months to see it on OTT”, said the actor.
