With only days to go before the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan has given an urgent call to audiences to combat piracy. In a recent interview, the actor-producer shared about the emotional and financial damage caused by pirated content to creators, encouraging his audience to acknowledge the massive effort and work of others.
“It’s Really Sad”: Aamir Khan On Piracy
In his interview, Aamir told the audience:
“When you watch a pirated version of a film you are doing so much harm, many don’t realize it.” “If you would not steal a TV, then why is it okay to watch a pirated movie? It is the same thing.”
Khan also went on to talk about the emotional journey in Sitaare Zameen Par after almost three years of work:
“All the emotions and sweat put in by these 10 kids, Genelia, Prasanna, writer, each head of department and me, is all in this film…”
“We really want audiences to see this film in the right way, not in by piracy.”
He also mentioned that his production is working to combat the leaks and illegal distribution of the film:
“We will be hiring agencies to help us save and limit illegal sharing of the film,” he stated.
This comes at a time when piracy is becoming a growing problem for filmmakers in the Indian film industry. Recently, there were films like Sikandar that faced tremendous losses in revenue due to movies leaking online just a few days post-release.
Sitaare Zameen Par: A Film Made With Emotion
As directed by Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’s R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy-drama and a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s emotional classic Taare Zameen Par from 2007. The upcoming feature film is also the official Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Spanish film Champions.
While Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh lead the film, the film also features ten debutant actors with Down syndrome. The film celebrates inclusion, resilience, and transformation – concepts that are often the first to be sacrificed when films are viewed illegally.
