Abhay Deol is making headlines after his recently released web series, Trial By Fire, received widespread praise. He’s been giving interviews to promote the show, and one of the most recent was with the tabloid Mid-Day. In the interview with tabloid’s entertainment editor Mayank Shekhar, he discussed not only Trial By Fire, but also his family, being an insider and yet an outsider, his previous films, and much more. He also broke his silence on Anurag Kashyap’s allegations made about two and a half years ago.
Anurag Kashyap stated in a June 2020 interview with Huffington Post that working with Abhay was “painfully difficult” and that he does not have fond memories of him. “He wanted to do artistic movies, but he also wanted mainstream benefits,” Anurag explained. He’d stay in a five-star hotel while the rest of the crew stayed in Paharganj for a low-budget film. Also the reason why many of his directors left him.”
Abhay Deol clarified that he never asked for a five-star hotel room. “Anurag went public and told a lot of lies about me,” Abhay says. One of my lies was that I demanded a [five-star] hotel room during the Dev D shoot. He had actually approached me and said, ‘Listen, you can’t stay with us because you’re a Deol. So I’d like to book you a hotel room.’ He literally said that to me. He told the press that I had demanded it.”
“I had my heart on my sleeve, and all that is great — but you get taken advantage of, and then you become reactive,” Abhay said. So he (Kashyap) was a good teacher for me. Then I just avoided him because I don’t need toxic people in my life. Life is too short, and there is so much more to discover. But he (Kashyap) is a liar and a toxic person. And I would warn others about him.”
