A Netflix performance chart crowded with global heavyweights has made room for one big Indian breakthrough, and it belongs to Accused. The Dharmatic Entertainment film has emerged as Netflix India’s best performing original title across both films and series in the platform’s first half of 2026 engagement report, turning a strong release into a genuine milestone for Indian streaming cinema.
The scale of that achievement becomes clearer in the global ranking. Accused finished at No. 67 worldwide across more than 9,000 titles, including originals and acquisitions, and logged 19 million views in the January to June 2026 period. Within the Indian lineup on the report, it stood as the most watched Indian original film and ranked just behind Dhurandhar overall among Indian originals and acquisitions.
Accused Sets A New Global Benchmark
That No. 67 finish gives Accused a major distinction in Netflix’s international catalogue. It has moved past the previous benchmark often associated with Indian originals and strengthened the film’s standing as one of the strongest global performers from India on the platform this year. During its launch period, the title also trended in 74 countries, underlining how quickly the film travelled beyond its home market.
Netflix said, “Today, we’re sharing what our members watched on Netflix from January to June 2026.” The streamer also said, “India had its highest viewing for a half yet with hits like Dhurandhar (37M).”
Those figures matter beyond a single title. In an increasingly competitive streaming environment, a Hindi original film cracking the upper tier of Netflix’s worldwide rankings signals a growing appetite for Indian stories that carry both local specificity and global pull.
The Film Behind The Breakthrough
Behind those numbers is a film driven by a strong creative lineup, which helps explain why Accused cut through so decisively. The project stars Konkona Sensharma and Pratibha Ranta and is directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla and Somen Mishra attached as producers under the Dharmatic Entertainment banner.
Positioned as a psychological drama, Accused leaned into emotional tension and performance led storytelling rather than scale spectacle. That combination now appears to have worked strongly in its favour on a global streaming platform, where audience attention is often fragmented across languages, genres and markets.
A Big Win For Dharmatic’S Streaming Ambitions
The bigger significance of Accused lies in what it signals for the business of Indian originals. A film pulling in 19 million views and reaching No. 67 worldwide gives Netflix India a powerful proof point for backing ambitious local films that can connect across territories, not just within the domestic catalogue.
For Dharmatic Entertainment, the result adds a high visibility success to its streaming slate and sharpens its position in the premium originals space. More importantly, Accused has shown that an Indian original film can compete not only within India’s crowded content ecosystem, but inside Netflix’s larger global viewing conversation, which is the benchmark producers and platforms are increasingly chasing in 2026.
