Adarsh Gourav is not sugarcoating the theatrical reality he is seeing right now. Even with a high-concept hook and the pull of a Valentine’s-week release, his survival thriller Tu Yaa Main has struggled to find the kind of footfalls that keep mid-budget experiments alive. And the actor says the post-pandemic audience’s growing tilt toward “big-ticket” spectacles is making that climb even steeper for films like his.
The film, which pairs Gourav with Shanaya Kapoor in a creature-feature set against the chaos of content creation culture, released in theatres on February 13, 2026. While the premise is designed for the big screen, its box office momentum has been modest so far.
Adarsh Gourav’s Blunt Take On The Post-Pandemic Theatre Pull
In an interview with Zoom, Gourav spoke candidly about the film’s low returns and what it signals for the kind of stories producers will back going forward.
“People want to go only for big-ticket films post the pandemic. They want films like Animal, Border 2, or Dhurandhar,” he said, adding that smaller commercial films also need audiences to show up “in certain numbers” to make the risk worthwhile for producers.
“I’m not saying these films should make an insane amount of money, but if they continue making big losses, then it discourages producers from experimenting with stories at all. Then all you will get to see is big films with big stars,” he added.
The anxiety, he admitted, is personal too. “Where will actors like me go? Where will the new actors go? OTT platforms also now have similar considerations,” Gourav said. He also pushed back against preconceived notions around Tu Yaa Main, sharing that many viewers who reached out to him changed their opinion after watching it.
Tu Yaa Main is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and stars Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor as social media influencers whose run-ins with a killer crocodile turn into a fight for survival. The film is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow, along with Vinod Bhanushali and Kamlesh Bhanushali of Bhanushali Studios Limited.
