After Ashwatthama With Vicky Kaushal, Now Another Aditya Dhar Directorial With Ranveer Singh Faces Budget Constraints

Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh’s upcoming action film to face delays due to budget constraints. Earlier, Dhar’s The Immortal Ashwatthama faced a similar issue, leading to its shelving.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar were set to collaborate on an action-thriller. With plans to kick off filming in Summer 2024, excitement was high for this dynamic duo’s first project together. However, recent developments have thrown a wrench into the works, causing an unexpected delay in the shooting schedule.

According to insiders speaking to Bollywood Hungama under the veil of anonymity,  Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar aspire to create a cinematic masterpiece, blending adrenaline-pumping action with the gritty backdrop of politics and gang warfare. Yet, aligning their grand vision with the financial constraints of their studio partner has proven challenging.

As a result, Dhar has taken a step back to fine-tune the script and recalibrate some of the high-octane action sequences to fit within a more manageable budget. The shift in the market dynamics, particularly the decline in the digital streaming sector’s profitability over the past two years, has prompted studios to tighten their purse strings, compelling filmmakers to reassess their financial strategies.

With the film now facing a delay of at least three to four months, the production team is diligently working to iron out the details and establish new timelines for shooting.

Aditya Dhar, the filmmaker behind Uri: The Surgical Strike, also faced a setback with his ambitious project, The Immortal Ashwatthama. The grand vision he harboured for the film was compromised by practical constraints, ultimately leading to its shelving. Dhar highlighted the importance of aiming for excellence beyond mere profitability and presenting a positive image of the nation through cinema.

Initially, the project saw significant investment, with producer Ronnie Screwvala pouring over Rs 30 crore into pre-production. However, despite the efforts, budget limitations proved insurmountable, forcing this Vicky Kaushal-starrer into an indefinite hiatus.

Dhar admitted that the scale they envisioned for the film surpassed the current capabilities of Indian cinema, particularly in terms of visual effects quality. He suggested that advancements in technology or an expansion of cinema infrastructure could make such endeavours more feasible in the future.
