A new controversy has erupted in Bollywood, and it’s centered around actress Mrunal Thakur. During a recent podcast appearance, Mrunal made some remarkably candid and sharp comments about turning down a major film early in her career, which are now being widely interpreted as a direct dig at Anushka Sharma.

When asked about rejecting a film that went on to become a super-hit and launched another actress, Mrunal did not hold back. She confirmed her reason for rejecting the role, stating, “I said no actually honestly because I was not ready.”
However, she followed it up with a statement that viewers are calling a direct shot at Anushka Sharma. Mrunal said, “…one of the reasons why then she’s not working at the moment but I am is itself a victory in itself.”
She further justified her decision to turn down the instant fame, explaining that her focus has always been on a long-term career. “Anything that comes instantly goes away instantly also,” she remarked, adding that if she had taken the role at that time, she “would have lost myself.”
The Unmistakable Link To ‘Sultan’
The comments are being universally linked to the casting of the 2016 blockbuster Sultan. It’s a well-known fact, confirmed by Salman Khan himself on Bigg Boss, that Mrunal Thakur was the original choice for the female lead, Aarfa. The role ultimately went to Anushka Sharma and the film was a massive success.
Fans believe Mrunal’s reference to an actress who is “not working at the moment” is a clear allusion to Anushka, who has taken a well-publicized break from full-time acting since her marriage to Virat Kohli and the birth of her two children. This context makes Mrunal’s comment about her own continued work being a “victory” seem particularly pointed.
