Bollywood actress Kajol Devgn has been targeted by Deepfake technology, a malicious tool that uses artificial intelligence to manipulate the face of a person in a video.
Kajol is not the first celebrity to fall prey to this technology. Earlier, actresses Katrina Kaif and Rashmika Mandanna also faced similar incidents, where their faces were swapped with other women in viral videos. The Deepfake videos have raised concerns about the misuse of technology and the potential harm it can cause to the reputation and privacy of the celebrities and the public.

Deepfake technology is a technique that uses artificial intelligence to create realistic images and videos of people by altering their facial expressions, movements, and voices. The technology can be used for various purposes, such as entertainment, education, and research. However, it can also be used for malicious purposes, such as spreading misinformation, defaming, blackmailing, and impersonating people.
About Kajol’s Deepfake Video
The original clip was posted by Rosie Breen on TikTok on June 5, 2023, following the Get Ready With Me (GRWM) trend. But the video that is circulating on social media lately has Kajol’s face swapped with Breen’s, making it seem like the Bollywood actress is changing her outfit on camera.
In Katrina Kaif’s case, a digitally altered image of the actress from her recent film ‘Tiger 3‘ surfaced online. While the original picture showed the Bollywood star fighting a stuntwoman clad in a towel, the edited version showed her wearing a low-cut white top and a matching bottom instead of the towel.
Rashmika reacted to her deepfake video
The video, which was shared on social media platforms, shows Rashmika entering an elevator. However, the original video features Zara Patel, a British-Indian influencer, whose face was replaced with Rashmika’s using Deepfake technology.
The actress had taken to her Instagram story and wrote, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude to her friends and family for the support, she further penned, “Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends, and well-wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”
Bollywood stars, with figures like Amitabh Bachchan and actress Mrunal Thakur expressed their support for Rashmika Mandanna.
