Emraan Hashmi, who is currently basking in the success of his latest film Tiger 3, is all set to collaborate with Karan Johar for an upcoming OTT show set to stream on Disney + Hotstar. The show, which is tentatively titled Showtime, will explore the glamorous and cut-throat world of showbiz.
Talking about it in an exclusive interview with ETimes, Emraan revealed that he completed the show a few months ago and it should stream sometime next year.
About Showtime, web series
Back in 2022, Karan had announced that his production house would be producing a show on the movie industry. The synopsis of the show stated, “Bollywood is the land of dreams – dreams that are dreamt with eyes wide open. Showtime, a drama series, brings forward all the off-screen fights for the power that runs the show. A deep, raw, unconcealed and uninhibited look into the battle lines that are drawn and crossed to keep the camera rolling and the audiences clapping. There is only one emperor that sits on the chair – but what’s a throne without a fight to get there? So, lights…camera… and action!”
According to sources, Emraan will play a business tycoon who is involved in the entertainment industry. The show will also feature a large ensemble cast of actors who will portray various characters related to the film and television business.
The show is being produced by Karan Johar’s digital arm, Dharmatic Entertainment, which has previously produced web series and films such as Guilty, Ajeeb Daastaans, and Meenakshi Sundareshwar for Netflix. The show is being written by Sumit Roy, who has also penned the film Gehraiyaan, starring Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, and Siddhant Chaturvedi. The show will be co-directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar, who have worked on popular web series such as Mirzapur and Dr. Arora.
Talking about what the show entails according to HT, Karan said, “I am excited to associate with Disney+ Hotstar for our new collaboration, announced at the prestigious D23 Expo. In addition to yet another exciting season of my beloved show, Koffee With Karan, happy to announce an all-new Dharma Production series, Showtime, which will lift the curtain on India’s entertainment industry’s biggest trade secrets.”
This is not the first time that Emraan and Karan are working together. The duo had also teamed up for the Hindi remake of the Malayalam comedy Driving License, titled Selfiee, which also stars Akshay Kumar. The film, directed by Raj Mehta, failed to create its mark at box office.
Emraan’s first OTT venture, Bard of Blood
The first OTT show that Emraan did was Bard of Blood (2019), which was a book adaptation produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s production house. The show had a major cliffhanger at the end of the first season, but the second season never materialized.

Clarifying the situation, Emraan shared, “Everyone comes to me and asks me, why are you making the second season of the show? The thing is that the show was based on the book and we just couldn’t crack a suitable story for the second season.”
Emraan Hashmi, is also working on another OTT film, titled Ground Zero, which is being produced by Excel Entertainment. The actor will be seen in this military thriller directed by Tejas Vijay Deoskar, known for Marathi films such as Ajinkya and Bucket List.
