Ahaan Panday’s post debut high came with a private battle no one saw coming. Months after Saiyaara turned him into one of Bollywood’s most talked about new faces, the actor revealed he quietly underwent a major shoulder surgery, one he describes as among the most painful procedures with a long recovery curve. The surprising part is that even while he was immobilised for a stretch, the injury and its aftermath largely slipped under the radar.
In a recent conversation with Esquire India, Ahaan opened up about why he chose to go under the knife right after the film’s release, and how it has reshaped his preparation for his next big-screen outing.
The Latest Update
“I actually got a whole surgery done after the release of Saiyaara last year. And it’s one of the most painful surgeries you can undergo, with the longest recovery time,” Ahaan said.
The actor traced the problem back to a snowmobile incident from a few years ago that left him with a shoulder subluxation. While the issue did not dominate headlines, it was affecting the one thing he needed most as he mapped his next step, training. Ahaan shared that the injury made it hard for him to hit his goals in the gym, which is why he decided to address it before committing fully to his next action film.
He also recalled being warned about how demanding the comeback would be. According to Ahaan, his doctor told him that post-procedure his body would “go back to zero,” and that it would be “nearly impossible” to build the physique required for the film within the timeline. Ahaan, however, appears to have taken the challenge personally, saying he wanted to “prove everyone wrong.”
Another detail he found amusing in hindsight was how the recovery stayed invisible. “I don’t know how nobody realised!” he said, adding that he spent months in a cast and yet it went unnoticed.
Ahaan Panday’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Ahaan made his theatrical debut with Saiyaara (2025), a romantic drama directed by Mohit Suri and headlined by Ahaan opposite Aneet Padda. The film was backed by Yash Raj Films, and emerged as one of the year’s major box office successes, positioning Ahaan as a breakout newcomer.
Next, Ahaan begins filming Ali Abbas Zafar’s yet-untitled action-romance on March 30, 2026, starting in Mumbai before the team heads to the UK for an approximately 60-day schedule. The film also stars Sharvari opposite him. As Ahaan revealed, his physical prep is already intense, with “about seven hours of daily physical activity,” including three hours of action work followed by two-and-a-half hours of strength training, as he pushes through the final leg of his transformation.
