Ajay Devgn Set For Morally Ambiguous Turn In Griha Pravesh, His First Grey Horror Role Since Kaal

Ajay Devgn is stepping back into darker territory, and this time the move comes with a supernatural twist. Nearly 21 years after Kaal released in 2005, the actor is gearing up to play a morally ambiguous character in director Rohit Jugraj’s horror film Griha Pravesh. The project marks an intriguing turn for Devgn, who has often balanced mainstream heroism with brooding intensity, but rarely in a zone that blurs the line between menace and mystery.

The film places Devgn in another horror setting, but with a character designed around a greyer moral centre. That choice makes Griha Pravesh one of the more striking titles in his current lineup, especially after Shaitaan in 2024 brought him back into the supernatural space. While Kaal remains the obvious reference point for fans who remember his darker screen energy, Griha Pravesh marks a fresh chapter in that space.

A Grey Character And A Delayed Uk Shoot Put Griha Pravesh In Focus

A source close to the production said, “The story is fascinating and something out of the ordinary,” indicating that the film’s central idea is one of its biggest draws. The same source added that the film was to be shot in a “single schedule in the United Kingdom from July”. However, the filming plan has since shifted because of Devgn’s existing commitments.

Directed by Rohit Jugraj, Griha Pravesh is a horror film with Devgn in the lead. Industry listings have also carried the Ajay Devgn-Rohit Jugraj project, reinforcing that the collaboration is firmly on the cards. What gives the film its strongest hook right now is the character brief itself. A morally ambiguous role allows Devgn to move away from straight-lined heroism and inhabit a more unpredictable emotional register.

That is also what makes the project stand apart when placed against the rest of his recent screen choices. Devgn has frequently moved between thrillers, franchise entertainers and big-canvas commercial films, but roles built around emotional opacity have appeared far less often in this phase of his career.

Why Griha Pravesh Stands Apart In Ajay Devgn’S Current Career Phase

Over the past four years, Devgn has maintained a steady run across theatres and streaming. His OTT debut Rudra: The Edge of Darkness premiered on Disney+ Hotstar in 2022. On the big screen, he followed it with Drishyam 2 in 2022, then Shaitaan and Singham Again in 2024. His 2025 filmography also includes Azaad, where he had an extended cameo. Together, those titles reflect a star moving comfortably between suspense, horror, mass entertainers and ensemble-led films.

His upcoming slate includes confirmed titles such as De De Pyaar De 2, Dhamaal 4, and Drishyam 3, which is listed for release on October 2, 2026. That range underlines how carefully Devgn has been balancing commercially familiar properties with parts that let him shift tone, genre and screen presence. In that context, Griha Pravesh fits as a smart next move, not because it follows a trend, but because it gives him a chance to explore a more shadowy character space within a genre audiences already associate with his recent success.
