Ajay Devgn Returns To Horror With Rohit Jugraj’s High-concept Film, Shoot Starts In July

Ajay Devgn is stepping back into horror after more than two decades, and the genre turn instantly stands out as one of the more unexpected moves on his current slate. At a time when the actor is closely associated with sequels, franchise spectacles and familiar crowd pleasers, this untitled film with Rohit Jugraj promises something moodier and more atmospheric. The project is already in pre production, with filming scheduled to begin in July.

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the film is being mounted on a sizeable scale and shaped as a high concept horror entertainer. The makers are planning an extensive London schedule, while the screenplay and key technical departments are being locked in ahead of production. Casting is in its final stages, with the ensemble expected to be unveiled closer to the start of the shoot.

More Than 20 Years After Bhoot, Ajay Devgn Finds A New Horror Vehicle

That production momentum also gives the update an added edge because Devgn has rarely revisited horror as a leading man. His last full fledged entry in the genre was Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhoot in 2003, making this a significant return after a long gap. The pairing with Rohit Jugraj makes the move even more intriguing. Jugraj, best known for the Sardaarji franchise and Arjun Patiala, has largely worked in a very different tonal space, which gives this collaboration the feel of a genuine creative shift rather than a routine casting development.

The title is being kept under wraps for now, but the makers have locked an intriguing name that will be revealed closer to production. With the script positioned as a stylised horror story and the film designed on a larger canvas, the project has quickly emerged as a notable addition to Devgn’s filmography.

A Surprising Turn In Ajay Devgn’s Current Phase

The new film lands at an interesting point in Devgn’s career. In 2024, he headlined Shaitaan, which clicked strongly with audiences, and followed it with Maidaan, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Singham Again. The mix reinforced his presence across supernatural drama, sports biography, romance and franchise action, underlining how varied his recent screen choices have been even within the mainstream space.

That context makes the Rohit Jugraj film feel even more distinctive. Devgn appeared in Azaad in an extended role and returned as Amay Patnaik in Raid 2 in 2025. He is also attached to De De Pyaar De 2 and Golmaal 5, both confirmed theatrical titles. In the middle of those established brands, a fresh horror film offers a sharp tonal shift and the promise of a different screen avatar, one that audiences have not seen from him in years.
