Netflix has kicked off the countdown to Akka with a striking first look that leans fully into menace, myth and female power. Unveiled on Keerthy Suresh’s birthday, the teaser introduces a dangerous new world ruled by legacy, instinct and confrontation, while also confirming that the Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte-led series will premiere on October 30, 2026.
Set in the 1980s, Akka unfolds in Pernuru, a fictional kingdom shaped by generations of women who have built, ruled and protected their world. The teaser introduces Keerthy as Bhavani and Radhika as Rudra, teasing an escalating clash between two formidable women inside a universe governed by its own rules and loyalties.
Netflix Confirms Akka Premiere Date
Netflix released the teaser on October 17, 2026, turning Keerthy Suresh’s birthday into a major launch moment for the series. Backed by YRF Entertainment, Akka is written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty in his directorial debut, with Tanvi Azmi also featuring in the cast.
Keerthy said, “The love I receive from the audience every year makes this day incredibly meaningful, and being able to celebrate it by unveiling the teaser of Akka, a project so close to my heart, feels truly special.” She also described Bhavani as a role that left a strong mark on her creatively. “Bhavani is one of the most unique and memorable characters I have had the opportunity to play. It was lovely working with Radhika. Our characters bring such compelling dynamics to the story, and the interplay between them adds an intriguing edge to the narrative.”
That sense of immersion appears central to how the series is being positioned, with the teaser foregrounding atmosphere, conflict and character over easy exposition. Keerthy added, “What drew me to this project was the distinctiveness of its story and the world it inhabits. I am looking forward to audiences immersing themselves in this world and discovering the many facets of Bhavani as her story unfolds.”
A Gangster Saga Led By Women
If the teaser sets up Akka as a battle for control inside a fiercely guarded female stronghold, Radhika Apte’s comments make it clear that Rudra will be a key force within that collision. “Rudra is a fascinating character, driven by her own convictions and an instinct to challenge the world around her. What drew me to the series was the complexity of its characters and the tensions that emerge from their differing perspectives,” she said.
She also added, “It’s wonderful that the date announcement and the teaser drop of Akka has coincided with Keerthy’s birthday. I am sure it is going to be lucky for us.” Speaking about the collaboration, Radhika said, “Collaborating with YRF Entertainment on a story with such layered characters has been a rewarding experience, and I look forward to audiences discovering Rudra and the many dimensions of her journey.”
With Akka arriving on October 30, the series lands at a strong moment in Keerthy Suresh’s career, as she continues to expand her presence across languages and formats while stepping into a darker, more stylised streaming world. For Netflix too, the show signals a clear push toward star-led Indian originals built around distinctive settings and high-stakes character drama, making Akka one of its sharper late-2026 launches.
