Having tick-marked every category from patriotic thrillers to comedic capers, Akshay Kumar is now going into a space he has never tackled — straight-up horror.
Yes, the Bollywood Khiladi is now entering into the shadows of a folklore horror film, which is being created by Siddharth Anand under his Marflix label.
And this will not be just another ghost story — insiders mention the feature is being conceptualised as a rich, emotional, VFX-driven theatrical horror feature as nothing Indian audiences have witnessed before.
Siddharth Anand & Akshay Kumar: A New Collaboration Brewing
Although Akshay has dabbled in horror-comedy in offerings like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Laxmii, and the upcoming Bhoot Bangla, he has never been in a genre that plays straightforward horror, until now.
According to a recent report, Siddharth Anand (known popularly for War and Pathaan) has been working towards a father-daughter supernatural drama based in Indian folklore. A debutant director is expected to take charge.
The film was first pitched to Akshay about 3–4 months ago. A source close to the development shared:
“Akshay has heard the narration, and apparently loved it. Though he has not signed on the dotted line, he has shown a fair amount of interest. It is a genre and emotional centre he has never gone to the level he wants to.”
What Makes This Horror Film Special
While we generally think of Indian horror films as opportunities to get jump-scared over and over, this film is supposedly based on ancient Indian myths and ghost stories.
There will be an emotional aspect to it as well, with a father-daughter relationship being shown — this is not something I’ve seen in any Indian horror tales.
So, Siddharth Anand is intending to make the movie an epic spectacle.
We are expecting some heavy-duty VFX and fantastic cinematography, along with the latest in sound design, to ensure that this is a true theatrical experience.
Akshay Kumar’s Packed Schedule
Before this horror thriller gets on the floors in early 2026, Akshay Kumar will have filmed:
- Welcome to the Jungle
- Priyadarshan’s Oppum remake with Saif Ali Khan (starting in August 2025)
- Jolly LLB 3 – due for release on Sept 19, 2025
- Bhoot Bangla (due on April 2, 2026)
- Potentially an OMG 3
- And a multi-starrer comedy with one of his regulars
With Housefull 5 releasing tomorrow and Kesari Chapter 2 behind him, Akshay Kumar isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
The news of Akshay Kumar entering a bona fide horror space is thrilling enough.
With Siddharth Anand’s commercial juggernaut mentality, a story grounded in folklore, and a father-daughter emotional dynamic, this untitled film could reshape horror for Indian cinema.
If it gets the green light fast, it could be the film everyone is talking about in 2026.
A genre shift for Akshay Kumar — as it promises chills, scale, and soul — Bollywood horror may have its first game-changer.
