Akshay Kumar has built a career on speed, swagger and star power, but Samuk promises something far less familiar and far more intriguing. The actor has now begun shooting for a creature-led sci-fi survival thriller, a genre turn that instantly sets this film apart from the crowd-pleasing comedies, courtroom dramas and action entertainers that have defined much of his recent run.
Backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and mounted with an international technical team, Samuk arrives as one of the more ambitious titles on Kumar’s slate. The project is being produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Aashin A Shah in collaboration with Cape of Good Films, with Kanishk Varma directing a story that blends survival action, military realism and alien mythology.
Production Begins On Akshay Kumar’s Unusual Genre Bet
The latest development is that Samuk has officially gone on floors. The film had been in development for over two years before cameras finally rolled, with the makers shaping it as a high-concept survival thriller built around scale, action and creature effects.
In the production announcement, the announcing team described Samuk as “a story that pushed us to imagine bigger, create differently and venture beyond the familiar.” It is a line that neatly sums up the film’s creative pitch, especially at a time when large Hindi star vehicles rarely step this deeply into sci-fi survival territory.
That ambition is also visible in the film’s technical roster. Academy Award nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis, whose credits include the Alien and Predator franchises, has created the central alien creature for the film. British action director Luke Tumber is overseeing the action design, giving Samuk a distinctly international physical language even before its first teaser arrives.
The full cast and release date are still under wraps, but the package already suggests a film that is trying to build atmosphere and spectacle in equal measure rather than relying only on star familiarity.

For Kumar, Samuk lands at an interesting moment. His recent releases have included Sky Force in January 2025, Housefull 5 in June 2025 and Jolly LLB 3 in September 2025, while Welcome to the Jungle arrived in June 2026. That mix reflects a star balancing franchise comfort with audience-tested genres, which is precisely why Samuk feels like a notable pivot.
The film stands out not just because it is new, but because it places Kumar inside a more creature-driven, world-building heavy format than audiences usually associate with him. His long association with Vipul Amrutlal Shah gives the project a familiar creative spine, yet everything around Samuk points to a deliberate move into fresher terrain. In a lineup filled with broad commercial entertainers, this film already carries a sharper identity. That alone makes Samuk one of the most curious Akshay Kumar projects currently in production.
