Jaswant Singh Gill, a former chief mining engineer, inspired the film’s title according to PeepingMoon. This man valiantly spearheaded the historic rescue mission that saved the lives of 64 employees trapped in a flooded coal mine in the 1989 Raniganj coal mining catastrophe, on which Capsule Gill is based. Tinu Suresh Desai, who directed Akshay Kumar’s Rustom, will direct this film, which will be co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment and Ajay Kapoor of Kyta Productions. The film will go on the floor in Amritsar in the third quarter of this year.

Tinu has been working on JS Gill’s life narrative for the past five years and is finally ready to share it with the world in its entirety. The focus of the film will be on the 1989 coal mine accident, and how Gill, risking his life and defying authority, plunged down a borehole in a capsule and orchestrated the escape of all the trapped miners. Desai has bought the life rights to Gill and is in regular touch with his son, Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Gill, seeking tale ideas. This film was formerly set to be directed by Ajay Devgn. However, due to perceived creative differences between the two, it did not take off.
