The conversation around Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat has finally shifted from uncertainty to momentum. Mahesh Manjrekar‘s historical drama, starring Akshay Kumar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has completed filming and moved into post-production, with makers targeting a January 1, 2027 theatrical release.
That is a key milestone for a film that has carried unusual attention ever since its announcement. Between its historical subject, multilingual ambition and Kumar stepping into one of the most iconic roles associated with Maratha history, the project has remained firmly on the industry radar. The latest progress update now suggests the film is moving ahead at full strength.
Shoot Wrapped, Post-Production Moves Ahead
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat has successfully completed its shoot and is now deep into post-production. The development comes after months of conversation around delays, but work on the film has continued steadily behind the scenes.
A source said, “The shoot of the film has been successfully completed and right now, post-production is going on. There has indeed been a delay, but a team has been dedicatedly working on the film regularly.”
The source added that Akshay Kumar shot for 25 days for the film and said, “Akshay Kumar has shot for the film for 25 days and has poured life into the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Moreover, Mahesh Manjrekar has mounted the film on a grand scale. It has shaped up to be one of the grandest films in Indian cinema.”
According to the source, the production is working toward a January 1, 2027 theatrical release, with a formal announcement expected in due course.
A Large-Canvas Retelling Of The Battle Of Nesari
Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat features Akshay Kumar alongside Satya Manjrekar, Pravin Tarde, Jay Dudhane, Hardik Joshi, Vishal Nikam, Utkarsh Shinde and Virat Madke. The period action drama is planned as a multilingual release in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu, underscoring the scale at which the makers are mounting the film.
The story revisits the historic Battle of Nesari, fought on February 24, 1674, when seven warriors led by Senapati Prataprao Gujar faced the much larger forces of Adilshahi general Bahlol Khan. That final stand gives the film its emotional core, positioning it as a tribute to bravery, sacrifice and Maratha valour.
Why This Film Matters In Akshay Kumar’s Slate
For Akshay Kumar, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat arrives at an important point in his career arc. After a run of commercial entertainers, franchise titles and courtroom or action dramas across 2024, 2025 and into 2026, this film stands apart as a historical spectacle rooted in regional identity but mounted for a pan-Indian audience. That alone gives it a distinct place in his lineup.
It also adds another ambitious period role to Kumar’s screen journey, but with a sharper cultural and political resonance than a standard costume drama. With Bhooth Bangla already released in April 2026, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat now shapes up as one of his most striking theatrical projects on the road to 2027, and potentially one of the defining large-scale films in his upcoming slate.
