Akshay Kumar Turns Villain Opposite Saif Ali Khan in Priyadarshan’s Oppam Remake
In a surprising twist that’s sure to excite Bollywood fans, Akshay Kumar will be playing the role of villain against Saif Ali Khan in Priyadarshan’s highly anticipated Hindi remake of the Malayalam psychological thriller Oppam.
While it was already reported about the project, and Bollywood fans were thrilled that Akshay Kumar was joining it, there’s now a confirmation from an exclusive update that the superstar will play the menacing antagonist, something immensely rare for him as he is known for being the hero in big Hindi films.
“While Saif Ali Khan takes on the lead, it’s Akshay who will shock audiences with his chilling character. The film will deliver a high-voltage clash between two seasoned performers. It’s dark, cerebral and gripping,” a source close to the production shared.
This also marks the reunion of the famous actor-director duo of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar, known for films like Hera Pheri , Garam Masala and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. However, this time, the two are partnering together again for a darker, more psychological thriller — a long way from their previous comedies.
The film is obviously a Hindi reimagining of Mohanlal’s 2016 Malayalam film Oppam. The film will be built around a visually impaired man involved in a murder mystery. With Saif in the leading role, as well as the same character that Mohanlal played, audiences can eagerly await another layered performance from Saif.
The shoot will be commencing in August 2025, presumably with a robust start-to-finish schedule targeting a late 2026 release.
With Akshay Kumar starring as a villain for the first time in many years and Saif Ali Khan bringing his serious demeanour to a standoff, audiences will get to witness one of the greatest cinematic rivalries on screen in a long time.
