The Maharashtra and Punjab governments have made this decision of reopening cinema halls after looking at the number of Covid19 cases dropping down. In the next days, a few more states are expected to follow suit. Bellbottom’s creators came up with an unexpected statement on June 15th. Akshay Kumar, the film’s principal star, stunned everyone by announcing that the historical action thriller will be released next month, on July 27.
It sparked a surge of joy and enthusiasm throughout the trade, industry, and fans, as expected. However, some people were perplexed as to why the movie was being released on a Tuesday rather than a Friday. On July 27, there are no festivals or holidays. Despite this, the filmmakers have chosen to release the film in the middle of the week.
Bollywood Hungama quoted an industry insider as, “The reason is simple. 2+7 = 9. And as we all know, 9 is Akshay Kumar’s lucky number. Hence, the decision was taken to release Bellbottom on July 27, despite it being a Tuesday.”
“Mid-week releases usually happen on a Wednesday or Thursday. Tuesday release is rare. The last time it happened was 9 years ago, when Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar released on Tuesday, November 13. But that’s because it was the day of Diwali. Then last year, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari came out in cinemas on a Sunday but that’s because it was post-Diwali and it was the first big film to release after a gap. But in the case of Bellbottom, there’s neither Diwali nor Eid on July 27. I guess the makers are quite confident about the product,” said a trade expert.
Bellbottom is directed by Ranjit M Tewari and stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta, and Adil Hussain in addition to Akshay Kumar. It was one of the first Bollywood films made after the outbreak.
