Simar Bhatia is making her Bollywood debut with the war film Ikkis and has already caught everyone’s attention. The newcomer, who is Akshay Kumar‘s niece, recently had a fun social media exchange with filmmaker Karan Johar that has gone viral. The playful banter started when Karan praised Simar after watching the final trailer of Ikkis.
When the makers launched the new and final trailer for Ikkis, Karan Johar took to Instagram to share it and wish both Agastya Nanda and Simar luck for their big release. Resharing the trailer, Karan wrote that the film looks solid and he is rooting for Agastya. He welcomed Simar to the film industry and called her stunning.
Simar’s Witty Response To Karan Johar
Simar was quick to repost Karan’s story with a witty jab about not launching her under his banner, Dharma Productions. She wrote thanking him and then asked why he did not give her a Dharma film. This playful question caught everyone’s attention because Dharma Productions is known for launching several star kids and newcomers over the years.

Karan responded promptly by reposting her story with a thoughtful reply. He said that Ikkis is the best launch for her and the film looks so good. The filmmaker added that he is excited to watch it and of course see her debut performance. This gracious response showed that he took the joke in good spirit.
Simar Clarifies It Was All In Good Humor
Simar shared Karan’s response story and quickly clarified that it was all just for laughs. She wrote that she really appreciates his post and indeed feels that Ikkis is the best thing that ever happened to her. This clarification ensured that nobody misunderstood the exchange as anything but friendly banter between two people who clearly respect each other.
The social media conversation has been well-received by fans who enjoyed seeing this lighthearted interaction. Many appreciated Simar’s wit and confidence even before her first film was released.
Akshay Kumar’s Emotional Message For His Niece
Earlier this month, Akshay Kumar also took to Instagram to wish his niece luck by sharing her poster from the film. He wrote about holding her as a tiny baby and now watching her step into the world of films. The actor said life has come full circle for him.
Akshay shared that he has seen Simar turn from a shy little girl who would hide behind her mom into a confident young woman ready to face the camera. He told her that the journey would be tough but knowing her, she will walk into it with spark, honesty, and stubborn determination. He explained that the Bhatias’ principle is simple – work hard, work with heart, and then watch the universe’s magic unfold.
About Ikkis
Ikkis is directed by Sriram Raghavan and marks his first war film. The film stars Agastya Nanda in his second film after The Archies, the late legend Dharmendra in his swan song, and debutant Simar Bhatia. Simar is the daughter of Akshay Kumar’s sister Alka Bhatia. The film is backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and was originally slated to release on Christmas. However, the producers moved the release to January 1, 2026 to avoid clashing with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.
