Yash Raj Films has officially circled a fresh date on the calendar for its high-stakes Spy Universe expansion Alpha, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari set to lead the studio’s first female-fronted spy outing. After months of chatter around shifting timelines and release speculation, the studio has now confirmed when audiences can finally catch the film on the big screen.
Yash Raj Films Confirms Alpha’s New Date
Producer Aditya Chopra has finalized Alpha for a theatrical release on 10 July 2026. The announcement landed with a new poster carrying the clear stamp, “10.07.26 Only in cinemas,” putting to rest any noise around the project’s release plan.
Alia Bhatt also shared the update on Instagram, writing, “#ALPHA 10.07.2026 See you in cinemas,” underlining that the film is headed to theatres.
Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail, best known for The Railway Men. The cast features Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead, alongside Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in key roles. The film has been positioned as a major tentpole for YRF, and the studio has previously reiterated its commitment to big-screen spectacle for titles from its theatrical slate.
What We Know About Alpha So Far
Alpha is backed by Yash Raj Films and is part of the YRF Spy Universe. The project has been widely described as the franchise’s first woman-led chapter, with Bhatt and Sharvari fronting the action narrative. While plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, the film’s core promise is clear: a slick spy-action setup mounted at a scale expected from the banner’s tentpole universe titles.
In the lead-up to the date announcement, Alpha had already been through schedule changes, with an earlier plan pointing to an April 2026 release window. The July 2026 date now becomes the film’s locked theatrical landing spot.
Alia Bhatt’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Bhatt’s last film release was Jigra (2024), directed by Vasan Bala, which later began streaming on Netflix. Before that, she headlined Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and appeared in Netflix’s Heart of Stone (2023). With Alpha dated for July 2026, her other major confirmed film in the pipeline remains Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, which has been announced for a 2026 release.
