Yash Raj Films’ next big spy universe swing has found a sharper landing spot. Alpha, fronted by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has moved ahead by a week and will now arrive in cinemas on July 3, 2026.
The film, earlier dated for July 10, is being positioned as a key new chapter in the YRF Spy Universe. The revised date gives Aditya Chopra’s production an early July launchpad for its action-heavy franchise play.
Alpha Moves To July 3
The new date places Alpha in theatres two weeks before Dhamaal 4 and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, both dated July 17, 2026. A source quoted in the release-date update said, “July 3 has emerged as an apt date to bring Alpha to cinemas since Dhamaal 4, which was scheduled to release on the same day, has now been pushed to July 17. With no major release planned for July 3, producer Aditya Chopra felt it was the right date to bring Alpha to theatres.”
A trade expert added, “Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is also releasing on July 17, along with Dhamaal 4. As a result, Alpha will now get two weeks to make the most of an open run at the box office, especially since no Bollywood film is scheduled to hit theatres on July 10.”
What Alpha Brings To The Yrf Spy Universe
Alpha stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, and is directed by Shiv Rawail, who previously helmed The Railway Men. Produced by Aditya Chopra, the 2026 action thriller marks Alia’s first project with Yash Raj Films and expands the studio’s spy franchise with a female-led spectacle.
The film introduces a darker action protagonist within the universe. A senior trade source said, “Alpha is definitely a major turn for the YRF Spy Universe,” adding, “It presents a lead character who is an assassin, not a spy that we have seen all leads play earlier. For the first time, Aditya Chopra is giving us an origin story that introduces a character that is more grey, more of an anti-hero in tonality. It is refreshing because otherwise it would be extremely boring for us to watch,” the source said.
Alia Bhatt’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Alia Bhatt’s recent slate has moved across theatrical, streaming and international spaces. She starred in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023 opposite Ranveer Singh, followed by her Hollywood OTT debut Heart of Stone on Netflix the same year. In 2024, she starred in and co-produced Jigra.
After Alpha in 2026, Alia also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, listed as a 2027 theatrical release. With Alpha, she enters full-scale franchise action as Hindi cinema leans further into star-led spectacle.
