Yash Raj Films has officially announced that Alpha, the first female led spy film in the YRF Spy Universe, will now release on April 17, 2026. The film was originally scheduled to hit cinemas on December 25, 2025, but has been pushed to next year to allow the post production team additional time to complete the VFX work.
This decision means that the ambitious action entertainer starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari will no longer be part of the Christmas 2025 lineup. The postponement comes as the makers want to ensure that the film’s visual effects meet the high standards expected from the YRF Spy Universe, which is known for its spectacular action sequences and cutting edge technology.
Christmas 2025 Clash Intensifies
With Alpha moving out of the December 25 slot, the Christmas box office battle has become a direct clash between two major releases. Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s romantic drama Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri and Dinesh Vijan’s patriotic film Ikkis will now face off on Christmas Day. Both films were already confirmed for the festive date, and with Alpha stepping aside, these two have the holiday slot to themselves.
The clash sets up an interesting box office scenario. While Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is a love story perfect for the festive season, Ikkis tells the inspiring tale of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra hero. The two films cater to different audiences, which could work in favor of both at the box office.
Why The Delay For Alpha
The decision to push Alpha was driven by the need for additional time to complete the VFX work. Given that the film is part of the YRF Spy Universe, which includes blockbusters like Pathaan, Tiger and War, expectations are sky high. Producer Aditya Chopra is known for not compromising on quality, and this postponement shows the commitment to delivering a visual spectacle.
The YRF Spy Universe has built its reputation on jaw dropping action sequences and state of the art visual effects. With Alpha being the first female led film in this franchise, the stakes are even higher. The makers want to ensure that every frame lives up to the legacy of the spy universe.
What This Means For The Franchise
Sharvari, who plays a super agent alongside Alia Bhatt, will have to wait a few more months before audiences see her in this highly anticipated role. Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha promises to bring a fresh perspective to the spy genre with two leading ladies taking center stage. The April 2026 release date gives the film a clear window without major competition, potentially working in its favor.
