Bihar voters are in for a treat if they cast their ballots on June 1. In a bid to boost voter turnout and cinema attendance, movie theatres across Bihar are offering a 50% discount on movie tickets to anyone who voted on Saturday during the Lok Sabha elections.
This initiative follows an already attractive ticket pricing strategy, with new releases available for Rs 99 across the board.
Bihar Cinema Manager Revealed Being Asked To Offer 50% Off To Voters
Kumar Abhishek, Cinema Manager at Connplex Patna, confirmed the news: “We’ve been asked to provide a 50% discount to voters from Sunday onwards. This means the boost in footfalls will continue this weekend.” The move is expected to significantly drive up cinema attendance over the coming days.
The timing of this discount aligns perfectly with the release of some highly anticipated films. Sharan Sharma’s Mr & Mrs Mahi opened with an impressive Rs 6 crore-plus on Friday. Abhinay Deo’s Savi also performed well, raking in around Rs 2 crores on its first day. The numbers for both films rose even more by Sunday.
Here’s The Reason Behind This Movie Tickets Discount Initiative
Kumar Abhishek commented on the broader impact of the initiative: “Even the earlier releases Srikanth, Laapataa Ladies, and Bhaiyya Ji are showing decent collections. But not to the extent that the movie business should start celebrating. The monetary incentives to get audiences into theatres work only if the product is good. This week’s releases have been liked by those who have seen them. Now we need the fence-sitters to take the plunge.”
The discount initiative is a smart move to leverage the heightened interest around election day and translate it into cinema visits. It also capitalises on the buzz generated by new releases and competitive ticket pricing. This synergy of civic duty and entertainment could set a precedent for other states looking to boost voter turnout and cinema attendance simultaneously.
For the unversed, the entire publicity campaign for Savi is being handled by its leading lady, Divya Khossla. Anil Kapoor, who plays a pivotal role in the film, has opted out of any promotional activities despite being paid a substantial amount for his part. This places Khossla in the spotlight, and her efforts seem to be paying off as the film garners attention and positive initial box office results.
