Amitabh Bachchan Confirms Kalki 2 Goes On Floors, Shares Ashwatthama Transformation From Hyderabad Set

Amitabh Bachchan’s Sunday ritual outside Jalsa is usually as fixed as the Mumbai skyline. So when the superstar didn’t step out for his weekly fan meet, it instantly set tongues wagging. Within hours, Bachchan offered a crisp, heartfelt explanation and in the process, delivered the update fans of Kalki 2898 AD have been waiting for.

The actor has confirmed that Kalki 2 has officially begun filming in Hyderabad, and he did it in his signature personal style, with a candid blog note, an apology to the crowd that still turned up outside his home, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse that puts Ashwatthama back in the spotlight.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Blog Post Confirms Hyderabad Shoot And Kamal Haasan Reunion

On February 24, Bachchan wrote on his blog that he had informed fans he would be unable to meet them on Sunday because he was shooting in Hyderabad, but many arrived anyway “to confirm,” including what he called “even this cute little fellow (dog),” as he shared photos of the gathering outside Jalsa.

The real headline, however, was his confirmation that work on the sequel is underway. Bachchan also posted behind-the-scenes images from the set, including a clear look at his Ashwatthama transformation and a warm moment with co-star Kamal Haasan. In the same post, he addressed missing the meet and wrote, “but apologies .. work first .. rest later .. … and meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN … we shall be working together after ages .. last in Giraftar .. Kalki 2 begun the work .. and shall ever cherish the love and affection of anticipated presence on the Sunday .. but hopefully shall be with all this coming Sunday ..My love.”

Geraftaar released in 1985, making this reunion a full-circle moment for two screen icons now sharing space in one of Indian cinema’s biggest-scale franchises.

What We Know About Kalki 2 So Far

Kalki 2 is the follow-up to 2024’s Kalki 2898 AD, written and directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. The franchise blends mythology and dystopian science fiction, drawing from the Mahabharata while staging its conflict in a futuristic world. The first film starred Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani, with Bachchan’s Ashwatthama positioned as a key force in the saga’s larger mythology.

Amitabh Bachchan And Kamal Haasan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

He has also remained highly visible on television through Kaun Banega Crorepati, continuing to balance marquee screen appearances with a strong connect to audiences at home.

For Kamal Haasan, the last few years have been defined by major, event-style projects across industries, including Indian 2 (2024) and Thug Life (2025), besides his scene-stealing antagonist turn in Kalki 2898 AD (2024). With Kalki 2 now rolling, the actor’s pan-India phase remains in full swing as he returns to the franchise’s central conflict.
