Following the threat, several governments including Maharashtra Government have decided to shut down theatres, along with several public places as a precautionary measure. This left the business of the movies which are running in the theaters hampered.
Delhi government had even announced the shutdown even before the release of Angrezi Medium. Talking about the same to a tabloid producer Dinesh Vijan said, there were left with no option but to release the film. Since the film had already opened in the UAE-GCC market on Thursday the day when the Chief Minister of Delhi announced the shutdown of theatres.
If they had any idea even before two-three days advance they would have had the time to rethink the release.
The producer also informed that the overseas prints had been dispatched and KDMs (code for digital projectors) issued to theatres across the country. However, the producer is hopeful since the film opened well and the critics and the audience appreciated it.
Dinesh further went on the record to say that they will rerelease the film in the areas where the government has ordered to shut down the theatres.
The film was highly anticipated as it is the comeback film of talented actor Irrfan Khan after almost two years as he underwent treatment for neuroendocrine tumor.
The story of the film revolves around a father’s struggle who wants to fulfill his daughter’s dreams. The film also stars Radhika Madan, Deepak Dobriyal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dimple Kapadia.
