Ameesha Patel, who played the role of Sakina in the blockbuster films Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) and Gadar 2: The Katha Continues (2023), has recently made a surprising statement about the possible third instalment of the franchise. She told a portal that she would make it clear during the narration that if there weren’t much of Tara-Sakeena moments, she would refuse to reprise her role in Gadar 3, to which director Anil Sharma has responded.
Ameesha shares a bittersweet relationship with the director Anil Sharma. At Gadar 3’s trailer launch event, she had stated, “He (Anil Sharma) is a perfectionist. We have a father-daughter relationship. We fight a lot. Yeh mujhe naaraaz karte rehte hai aur main inse fight karti rehti hoon. I block him on Instagram and WhatsApp. Then I unblock him again. Yeh hamara rishta hai.”
Ameesha Patel Said She’ll Reject Gadar 3 If Her Role Is Not Significant
Ameesha categorically said, “Not only will I make it clear during the narration, but for any reason if Tara and Sakeena are not there much together, I will reject the film. I will not do it only. I will not disappoint my fans because I know what they felt was lacking this time around and we owe it to them. At the end of the day, they are coming for Tara and Sakeena. Their love and attachment are for Tara and Sakeena. You cannot have Titanic (1997) without Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Because of this, the NRI audiences haven’t caught on to the film like they did for part 1.”

She also said that the fans wished to see more of Tara and Sakina’s chemistry in Gadar 2, but they were disappointed as the film focused more on their son Jeete, played by Utkarsh Sharma. She added that she was happy with the success of Gadar 2, but she felt that her character was sidelined in the sequel.
Anil Sharma Responds, Says Sakina Is His Creation, Not Ameesha Patel’s
Anil Sharma, the director of both Gadar films, has responded to Ameesha Patel’s remark on Gadar 3. He said that the character of Sakina was born from his heart, not hers. He also said that he himself doesn’t know what will happen in Gadar 3, and it doesn’t matter what Ameesha Patel says or thinks. He further said that he respects Ameesha Patel as an actress, but he is the creator of Sakina and he knows what is best for her character. He also said that he has some thoughts in his mind for Gadar 3, along with writer Shaktimaan Talwar, but he asked the fans to wait patiently for the announcement.
Anil Sharma said, “Ameesha ji has said a lot of things during the course of the film. I’d not like to comment on it. I respect her and will continue to do so. The character of Sakina was born from my heart, not hers. I myself don’t know what will happen in Gadar 3. Unke kehne ya sochne se kya hota hai? I am happy she’s so connected with Gadar. I’d like to thank them. Woh accha ya bura jo bhi bole, unka mann hai.”
Gadar 2 breaks records at the box office
Gadar 2, which released on August 11, 2023, has been a huge hit at the domestic box office. The film stars Sunny Deol as Tara Singh, Ameesha Patel as Sakina, Utkarsh Sharma as Jeete and Simrat Kaur as Muskaan. The film is a sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which was released in 2001 and became one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
Gadar 2 was expected to drop a bit on 3rd Friday and release of Dream Girl 2 will further dent it to some extent. Film collected 7.10 cr net on 3rd Friday and jumped big on 3rd Saturday by 90% with 13.75 cr net number. Film again jumped on Sunday and collected 16.10 cr. Film crossed 37 cr over 3rd weekend. Film collected 4.60 cr on 3rd Monday with 33% drop from Friday.
Film jumped today due to holiday tomorrow and collected 5.10 cr on Tuesday. Film jumped due to Raksha Bandhan holiday as film had offer of buy 2 get 2 tickets free. Film collected 8.75 cr on 3rd Wednesday followed by 8.10 cr in 3rd Thursday. Film collected 63 cr in 3rd week with 43% drop.
Film has total of 482.45 cr net after 3rd week. Now film has chances to beat lifetime biz of Pathaan and emerge highest grosser ever as it has only Dreamgirl 2 in third week to compete. Film is almost certain to cross 500 cr net lifetime and it will be tough to cross 524 cr net of lifetime of Pathaan.
