While Alia Bhatt was too busy working for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi which went on floor in December 2019, Coronavirus pandemic has forced the team to shut down the shoot. This is a dream project for both Alia and Sanjay. The first look was unveiled in January 2020 which gathered a lot of buzz from the netizens.
According to the information a huge set has been erected at Film City in Mumbai which is almost a replica of Kamathipura in the 60s. The team created a police station, Baazi film’s poster, two cinema halls named Roshan Talkies with Raj Kapoor’s Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai poster and Albert Talkies has the poster of Pyaasa. They have given it quite an old 60s look with doors plastered with the posters of yesteryear actresses Waheeda Rehman, Nargis Dutt, Madhubala, and Meena Kumari.
This is a story of Gangubai also remembered as The Madam of Kamathipura who was pushed into prostitution at an early age, and later became an extremely influential pimp. She had numerous ferocious gangsters as her client.
The film is expected to release on 11th September 2020.
