Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi now has a new release date. The movie is an official remake of the 2019 released Malayalam film Driving License. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Prithviraj Sukumaran appeared in the Malayalam movie. Additionally, Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha will play significant roles in the Hindi version. It will be the first time Akshay and Emraan work together on a film.
The makers announced that the film will release on February 24, 2023. The official statement by the makers read, “Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Productions, Magic Frames, and Cape of Good Films’ previously announced ‘Selfiee’, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi along with Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha will now release on February 24, 2023.”
As Emraan Hashmi and Akshay Kumar are both struggling at the box office, another remake is likely to have trouble financially.
On one hand, Emraan Hashmi has a succession of dud movies to his credit, including Tigers, Dybbuk, Chehre, Mumbai Saga, The Body, and Why Cheat India. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, had flops including Bachchhan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj and even RakshaBandhan against Aamir’s Laal Singh Chaddha looks weak.
A film’s non-holiday release implies a bumper opening is out of the question, and in the best-case scenario, it will rely more on word of mouth following a decent sort of opening.
Selfiee is produced by Sukumaran’s Prithviraj Productions, Johar’s Dharma Productions, Kumar’s Cape of Good Films, and Magic Frames. According to reports, Akshay will play a superstar in this suspenseful thriller. Emraan, on the other hand, will portray a police officer who is a fan of the celebrity.
