AR Murugadoss, the renowned director of Indian cinema, has finally broken his silence about his upcoming film project. After taking a break from filmmaking following the underwhelming response to his last release, Darbar, the director is now actively promoting his upcoming production venture, August 16 1947. During a recent interview, the director disclosed that he has been working on a film featuring animals and children as the lead characters.
The filmmaker had originally written the script for the film, which had a monkey as the lead, even before his debut venture Dheena (2001). However, he realized that shooting a film with animals would be challenging due to the cultural decline of the circus industry. The script was thus put on hold and revived during the pandemic when Murugadoss decided to make the film using CGI and visual effects.
The director also mentioned that he has been working with a company called Double Negative, which has previously worked on films like Avengers and has received multiple Oscars for their special effects. The company was impressed with the script and has been working with the director for the past two years on pre-production.
Despite the setbacks caused by the pandemic and the series of flops in Bollywood, the director is still determined to make the film. “There is a hero role in the film, which has a runtime of about 20 mins. I narrated the story to Akshay Kumar sir and he said he will do it without a fee. He wanted a profit-share sort of deal instead. Now, it is still in pre-production. I will definitely do it one day. That’s my dream project,” he revealed.
Currently, AR Murugadoss is also in talks with Sivakarthikeyan for a new film, but he is yet to officially confirm the project. Fans of the director and cinema enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating the release of August 16, 1947, which is set to hit theaters on April 7.
