Arijit Singh Is Not Returning To Playback Singing With Awarapan 2, Manager Calls Yeh Awarapan An Old Commitment

The buzz around Awarapan 2’s new song Yeh Awarapan may have sparked fresh hope among Arijit Singh fans, but the singer is not returning to playback singing. The track’s arrival on July 21 quickly triggered comeback chatter online, especially because it marks a reunion with Emraan Hashmi’s franchise and Vishesh Films, a space closely tied to some of Singh’s most loved Hindi film songs.

That excitement, however, has now been firmly addressed by Singh’s team. Even as Yeh Awarapan grabs attention for bringing his voice back into a major Bollywood title, the release does not signal a reversal of his decision earlier this year to step away from new playback assignments.

Manager Clarifies Arijit Singh’S Status

Singh’s manager has made the situation unambiguous, saying, “He is just completing the projects that were finalized before the retirement was announced. Arijit isn’t doing a comeback in playback singing. These are old commitments.”

The clarification matters because Singh’s withdrawal from new playback work in January 2026 had sent shockwaves through the music industry. In his announcement, he wrote, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

That makes Yeh Awarapan part of a previously locked-in slate rather than a fresh signing. The song is composed by Amaal Malik and written by Rashmi Virag, while Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Atul Kumar, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026.

Why Yeh Awarapan Feels Bigger Than One Song

There is also a strong emotional pull to this release. Singh has shared a long creative history with Vishesh Films, including Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2, Muskurane from CityLights, and songs from Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani. Yeh Awarapan also reunites him with producer Vishesh Bhatt, adding another layer of nostalgia to the launch.

That context explains why the song instantly felt like more than just another soundtrack drop. But as things stand, it is a continuation of past commitments, not the start of a new playback chapter.

Emraan Hashmi’s Recent And Upcoming Work

For Emraan Hashmi, Awarapan 2 is one of his key upcoming theatrical releases. In recent years, he was seen in Tiger 3 (2023), the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer in which he played the antagonist, and Ae Watan Mere Watan (2024), which premiered on Prime Video. He is also attached to Ground Zero and Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, both part of his current screen slate alongside Awarapan 2.
