Avatar Fire And Ash Day 3 Box Office Collection: James Cameron’s Epic Saga Collects Below Par 75 Crore In India, Earns $345M Worldwide Less Than Barbie And Zootopia 2

How is Avatar Fire and Ash performing at the box office? The answer is complicated. James Cameron‘s highly anticipated third installment in the Avatar franchise has completed its opening weekend with decent but not spectacular numbers. In India, the film collected 27.25 crore on Day 3, bringing the three day total to 75.25 crore. Globally, the film earned $345 million, which sounds impressive but falls short when compared to other recent blockbusters.

The numbers tell an interesting story. While Avatar Fire and Ash is performing reasonably well, it is nowhere close to the massive success of its predecessor Avatar: The Way of Water. The film is also facing tough competition in India from Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which continues to dominate even in its third week.

Avatar Fire And Ash India Box Office Collection Day Wise

DayNet Collection (India)
Day 122.50 crore
Day 225.50 crore
Day 327.25 crore
Total75.25 crore

The film showed steady growth over the weekend with increases each day. However, the overall total of 75.25 crore is considered below par for a franchise as big as Avatar.

How Does It Compare To The Way Of Water

The comparison with Avatar: The Way of Water is inevitable and frankly quite disappointing for the makers. The 2022 film had opened with nearly 50 crore on Day 1 alone in India and had collected close to 100 crore in its first two days. In contrast, Avatar Fire and Ash is running almost 50 percent behind at the same point.

This significant drop shows that the Indian audience’s enthusiasm for the franchise has cooled down considerably. While the first sequel benefited from massive curiosity after a 13 year gap, the third film arrived just three years later and could not generate the same level of excitement.

Worldwide Collections Fall Short Of Expectations

Globally, Avatar Fire and Ash earned $345 million in its opening weekend. While this is a respectable number by most standards, it falls short when compared to recent blockbusters. The film could not beat Zootopia 2, which set a record breaking pace with a $560 million start earlier this year.

Avatar Fire and Ash also lost to films like Barbie which opened with $356 million, Moana 2 with $389 million, and even the Chinese animated feature Ne Zha 2 with $431 million. Most embarrassingly, the film earned significantly less than Avatar: The Way of Water which had opened at $441 million three years ago.

Dhurandhar Impact In India

One of the biggest reasons for Avatar Fire and Ash struggling in India is the continued dominance of Dhurandhar. Ranveer Singh’s film is still pulling massive crowds even in its third week. On Day 16 alone, Dhurandhar reportedly collected 33.50 crore net, which is more than what Avatar collected on any single day during its opening weekend.

This shows the power of strong content. Indian audiences are clearly choosing the homegrown blockbuster over the Hollywood spectacle, limiting Avatar’s growth potential in several centers across the country.

International Performance

The film performed better in overseas markets. China led with $57.6 million, which is a record breaking start for the franchise in that territory. France contributed $8.7 million and Germany added $8.3 million to the tally. India contributed approximately $2.6 million to the international total.

While these are solid numbers, they are not the kind of record shattering figures that the Avatar franchise is known for. The film will need strong legs over the coming weeks to reach the kind of lifetime totals that its predecessors achieved.
