Awarapan 2 may be drawing audiences on the back of a beloved title, but the louder story right now is the backlash. Days after the Emraan Hashmi-led sequel hit theatres on August 14, 2026, social media has filled up with angry fan posts arguing that the film’s legacy appeal, old-song recall and Hashmi’s presence worked harder than its writing and direction.

That sting is especially sharp because Awarapan still enjoys cult status among Emraan Hashmi fans. The new film, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui for Vishesh Films, arrived with built-in goodwill and a familiar emotional pull. Instead of unanimous celebration, though, online chatter has turned into a running critique of the screenplay, villain design and suspense choices, with many fans saying the sequel missed the depth that made the original endure.
Fans Put The Screenplay And Direction In The Dock

Another post framed the success as something earned outside the script: “Singers, Nostalgia and Fans ne hit karaya iss film ko. @visheshfilm please b careful with ur directors and writers nhi toh phir se kangaal ho jaaoge @emraanhashmi bhai dang se script choose karo in future mauke baar baar nhi milte @Emraanians @KkcAbid.”
The criticism also zeroed in on one reveal that some viewers felt was too easy to see coming. A fan wrote, “Bhai wo Aaliyah (small girl) mari nahi hai, wo kya jhatu suspense tha… Meri mummy jo bhot kam movies dekhti hai unhone ne bhi guess kar liya tha… I still can’t believe @BilalS158 wrote that suspense in Bads of Bollywood, it was definitely Aaryan’s idea.”
Another reaction said, “Bhai thode bhi kaayde se likha hota na soch kar.. toh 250-300Cr koi badi baat nahi hoti.. I still wonder ki is @BilalS158 bkl ne #Awarapan dekhi bhi hai ya nahi.. aur agar dekhi bhi.. toh kya samajh me aaya isko??”
For some fans, the bigger disappointment was how the sequel handled Shivam’s world and its antagonist. One post read, “Malik jaise aura holder gangster ke right hand shivam ko itna ghatiya villan diya A2 me… Matlab kya hi sense hai bhai ! Shivam jaise past wala gangster agar ek thappad mar de zarawar jaise curly hair wale gangster ko toh woh wahi moot de. Usko in logo ne main villan bna diya😂” Another added, “Sahi bola bhai…..happy ki film hit ho gyee…sad ki film ghatiya thee…as a emmi fan inne ghatiya film wo b vishesh film ki taraf se….writer and director need to be sacked..”

The reaction says a lot about the expectations surrounding Awarapan 2. Official listings and certification records identify the film as a 2026 Hindi action drama directed by Nitin Kakkar, with Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani in the lead and Bilal Siddiqui credited as writer.
