Producer Mukesh Bhatt has clarified that the much-anticipated sequel Awarapan 2 will now release in May or June 2026. The producer dispelled reports that the date shift was driven by competition from other major releases such as Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic.
The film starring Emraan Hashmi was widely reported to have been pushed from an earlier April slot amid a crowded release calendar. However, Bhatt said the postponement is rooted in production realities rather than strategic box office avoidance.
Emraan Hashmi’s Accident Caused The Delay
Speaking to PTI, Mukesh Bhatt revealed the real reason behind the date change. He said that the release date of Awarapan 2 has been shifted to May or June because while shooting for the film, Emraan Hashmi met with an accident and had to undergo surgery.
As a result, the actor is not allowed to do action scenes for 45 days. All the remaining action sequences will be performed later once he recovers.
Mukesh Bhatt Not Scared Of Competition
When asked about the competition from other big releases, Mukesh Bhatt was clear in his response. He stated that he is not scared of Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic. The delay is purely due to Emraan Hashmi’s medical condition and the remaining shoot schedule.
According to Bhatt, only one schedule of around 20 days of shooting in Malaysia is left before the film can be completed. This remaining block of work includes key action sequences that will be undertaken after the actor’s medical rest period concludes.
Awarapan 2 Reunites Emraan Hashmi With New Team
The original Awarapan released in 2007 and was directed by Mohit Suri. The film earned a cult following for its intense story and Emraan Hashmi’s powerful performance. The sequel reunites Hashmi with director Nitin Kakkar and writer Bilal Siddiqui.
Awarapan 2 is also reported to feature Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in prominent roles alongside Emraan Hashmi.
