Ayan Mukerji Opts Out Of Dhoom 4 After War 2 Debacle, Shifts His Focus On Brahmastra 2; Aditya Chopra Might Helm Dhoom 4 Starring Ranbir Kapoor

Director Ayan Mukerji is no longer directing the highly-awaited Dhoom 4. After the reported debacle of War 2, sources say the director has decided to step away from the massive YRF action franchise.

Instead, Ayan is shifting his full attention back to his own passion project, the Astraverse. This means he is now completely focused on making Brahmastra 2. This move has led to a lot of talk about who will take over the director’s chair for Dhoom 4, which is set to star Ranbir Kapoor.

Why Ayan Mukerji Stepped Away

According to insiders, Ayan had a closed-door conversation with YRF head Aditya Chopra to explain his decision. He reportedly felt that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 were not the right fit for him as a filmmaker. Ayan wants to create movies that have a wider scope for romance, drama, and storytelling, along with big-screen spectacle.

Sources claim that on War 2, Ayan was mainly executing a script written by Shridhar Raghavan and had very little say in the story. He is a passionate director who prefers to be deeply involved in the writing process. He reportedly does not want to be on another journey where he is just executing someone else’s vision.

Back To The Astraverse: Brahmastra 2

The decision to leave Dhoom 4 was made after several talks with both Aditya Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. It is reported that both of them understood Ayan’s point of view, and they have parted ways on a good note, without any bad blood.

So, what is next for Ayan? He is now working full-time on Brahmastra 2. The writing for the sequel is said to be complete, and he is currently polishing the final script during a stay in the Himalayas. The plan is to take the film on floors in 2026. Fans of Shiva and Isha’s story have a lot to look forward to as Ayan returns to his own universe.

Who Will Direct Dhoom 4 Now?

With Ayan Mukerji out, Aditya Chopra is on the hunt for a new director to helm Dhoom 4. This is a huge responsibility, as the Dhoom franchise is one of the biggest in Indian cinema.

An interesting piece of news coming from YRF insiders is that Aditya Chopra himself might step in to direct the film. Adi Chopra has only directed a few films, like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, so this would be a massive development. What makes this even more exciting is that Ranbir Kapoor has already allotted his dates for the new Dhoom film. It seems a lot more drama and big announcements are on the way.

About Dhoom 4

Dhoom 4 is the upcoming fourth installment in Yash Raj Films’ popular Dhoom action-thriller franchise. While plot details are still under wraps, the film is set to star Ranbir Kapoor in a key role. The project is currently in development, with producer Aditya Chopra searching for a new director after Ayan Mukerji’s exit.
