Ayushmann Khurrana, the star known for his unique film choices, is gearing up for his next big movie, Thamma, and he couldn’t be more excited. Speaking recently at the FICCI Frames event in Mumbai, the actor revealed that Thamma is not just another film for him; it’s a major milestone in his career. He also opened up about his new strategy for choosing films after the pandemic.
For the first time in his decade-long career, Ayushmann will have a film releasing on a major festival. He called Thamma his “biggest release” and his first-ever Diwali entertainer, signaling a new chapter for the actor.
All About His First Diwali Release, ‘Thamma’
Thamma is a horror-comedy that is part of the hugely successful Maddock comedy universe, which has given us hits like Stree. According to Ayushmann, the film is based on Indian folklore and will introduce a new powerful entity. “We’ve heard about Daityas (demonic Gods), Thaama is the most powerful Daitya,” he explained.
The actor shared his excitement, saying, “This is my first Diwali release… This is my biggest release in terms of scale, marketing, and universe. I think this is the most successful universe in the history of Hindi cinema. And I’m very excited about it. It’s a commercial film, Diwali, family, everything.”
A New Strategy For A Wider Audience
Ayushmann also spoke about how his approach to selecting scripts has changed. He admitted that before the pandemic, his choices were “more taboo-based,” but now he is consciously moving in a different direction to appeal to a larger audience.
“I’m staying slightly away from taboo but not from quirk,” he clarified. “It has to be for a bigger palette, a larger palette, more rooted, more commercial in a way.” He explained that while he will continue doing his “keeda” films because that’s his core, he wants to ensure they are not controversial. His upcoming lineup, which includes a film with Sooraj Barjatya and another with Dharma Productions, proves he is focused on making movies for a wider family audience.
