With less than three weeks left for its theatrical release, Batwara 1947 is entering an important stretch of its publicity campaign, and the makers are giving the trailer launch a scale that matches the film’s ambition. The Sunny Deol-led period drama will unveil its trailer across two cities on consecutive days, beginning at Jaipur’s iconic Raj Mandir cinema on July 28, followed by a Mumbai event on July 29.
The Jaipur stop gives the rollout an unmistakably grand, fan-first flavour. Raj Mandir, one of India’s most storied single-screen theatres, opened in 1976 and has remained a landmark for Hindi film culture ever since. Its association with big-screen spectacle makes it a natural stage for a film mounted around emotion, history and star power.
Twin-City Trailer Rollout Begins In Jaipur
A source said, “On Tuesday, July 28, the trailer of Batwara 1947 will be unveiled in the iconic single-screen cinema, Raj Mandir in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Fans and local media will be invited to catch the trailer and also catch a glimpse of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi.”
The source added, “Raj Mandir serves as the perfect venue for such events in Rajasthan. It has hosted several launches previously, so the management has experience handling fans and stars. Moreover, the single-screen is one-of-a-kind in the country in terms of ambience, screen and sound quality, etc. Also, it’s a theatre close to Sunny Deol’s heart. He promoted the re-release of his cult classic, Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001), as part of promotions of Gadar 2 (2023) and the response was extraordinary. He then returned to Raj Mandir to promote Jaat (2025) as well. Both films were successful and, in a way, promotional events at Raj Mandir have proved to be a lucky charm for the actor.”
The source then said, “The next day, July 29, a similar event will be held for media and fans in Mumbai.” Together, the two-city plan suggests the makers are positioning the trailer launch as more than a routine media exercise. It also underlines the scale around Batwara 1947, a film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, and scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 13.
Why This Reunion Carries Weight
That rollout gains even more significance because Batwara 1947 brings Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi back together, a pairing that still carries strong recall with Hindi cinema audiences. Their past collaborations, Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak, helped shape Deol’s enduring big-screen image and remain reference points in discussions around his most celebrated performances.
This new film also arrives with an ensemble that includes Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol, adding both nostalgia and cross-generational appeal. Based on Syed Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, the Partition-era drama follows a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore and is allotted a haveli vacated by a Hindu family, only to find its elderly matriarch unwilling to leave. That emotional premise, combined with the Santoshi-Deol reunion, gives the film a cultural pull that goes beyond standard release-week curiosity.
