The controversy surrounding the color of Deepika Padukone’s bikini in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from the film ‘Pathaan’ has finally been addressed by director Siddharth Anand. Speaking at the News18 Rising India summit 2023, Anand revealed that he had chosen the orange color of the bikini “randomly” and had “never given it too much thought.”
Despite calls for the song to be removed or the color of the costume to be changed, the makers of the film stood firm, and the film was eventually released to positive reviews from the audience. Anand explained that the color was chosen because it looked good with the sunny weather, green grass, and blue water in the background.
While acknowledging the initial reaction to the controversy, Anand stated that he would not hold the audience accountable for it since they had not seen the film at that point. He expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response from the audience, stating that they had shown great support by flocking to theaters to watch the movie.
Anand also shed light on the impact that calls for boycotts could have on the livelihoods of those involved in the film industry, saying, “When you are calling for a boycott of a star or a movie, you are not seeing how many people’s livelihood is dependent on that particular movie, especially if it works. At least three hundred people work on a film every day.”
Concluding his take on the controversy, Anand said that the audience had proved the boycott movement wrong and expressed his excitement for his upcoming project, ‘Fighter,’ starring Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan.
