Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s ambitious romantic epic Love & War has hit a numeric wall due to climate. Mumbai was experiencing continuous rain showers on May 26, and a major outdoor sequence with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal was unable to be put into motion.
Negative Effect on Outdoor Sequence As Mumbai Weather Affects Plans
Sources say the cancelled sequence was pivotal — a climactic dramatic moment between the two male contestants which required outdoor lighting stability, astute planning and logistics.
“It was a pivotal dramatic scene that was set outside, and required specific lighting. With water-logging and rain, it would have been impossible to shoot,” said a source.
The fact that many crew members were unable to reach Film City, Goregaon also complicated matters, with train disruptions and flooding.
“Bhansali sir didn’t want to compromise on the sequence’s visual quality or safety of his 500-plus crew.”
Ranbir Kapoor & Vicky Kaushal Get A Weather-Driven Break
While Alia Bhatt, the third lead in the film, was not involved in this schedule, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal had blocked their dates for this week due to the demanding shoot. The unexpected rainfall meant a reschedule.
In the end, there may be no significant change to the larger shooting schedule.
“Hopefully, my take is correct, the shoot will continue later this week when the rains don’t return. Luckily, this one week will not affect the schedule,” said the source.
Love & War: Bhansali’s Next Canvas
While truly a love story, veteran director and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali promises a visual extravaganza of epic romantic scale with Love & War, now in production with the primary cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal entangled in what he’s described as his most emotional pitch yet.
The film is slated to land squarely in theatres in 2026 and represents Sanjay’s efforts to get back into romance after classics like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Saawariya — now shaped into a slightly layered triangular story that dolphins between extremes and art.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Bhansali will not exchange vision for convenience, especially on a film that can look like Love & War — every frame a moving painting. If he has to wait out the Mumbai monsoon, so be it! The grandeur can pause, but it won’t settle for less.
