Vidya Balan is gearing up to reprise her iconic role as Manjulika in the upcoming film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Almost 17 years after she captivated audiences with her portrayal in the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Balan is ready to delve back into the mystical and eerie world of Manjulika.
In an interview with Midday, Balan shared her excitement about returning to this beloved character. She expressed how the role of Manjulika holds a special place in her heart and admitted that taking on the part again is both thrilling and daunting. Despite her initial reservations, Balan was drawn to the project by the opportunity to work with director Anees Bazmee and the captivating script of the film.
Vidya Balan Speaks On Her Role In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
Vidya stated, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa gave me such incredible memories. So, I questioned, ‘Should I do another part of this franchise?’ The concern that the sequel won’t live up to the original always lingers in an actor’s mind. However, I’ve matured. This film is a whole new experience, offering a myriad of delights. I was drawn to collaborate with Anees bhai. The script resonated with me deeply, and being part of the original adds a whole new layer of excitement.”
Reflecting on her journey with the franchise, Balan confessed to feeling the pressure of living up to the original’s success. However, she emphasized her growth as an actor and her confidence in the unique storyline of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Balan assured fans that while Manjulika remains the same character they love, her portrayal will bring fresh nuances and depth to the role.
“A significant part of an actor’s preparation involves sitting down with the director and embracing their vision. I always make sure to understand how my character fits into their vision. It’s crucial to grasp the world I have to inhabit and my character’s inner world. With Manjulika, I’m not attempting to recreate what I had done before. It is a different time and a different me. The role may be the same, but it has changed [in its own way]. My approach is fresh.”
Vidya’s Bond With Co-Star Kartik Aaryan
Regarding her collaboration with co-star Kartik Aaryan, who plays the character of Rooh Baba, Balan described their dynamic as harmonious despite their differing approaches to acting. She highlighted their strong chemistry and said, “we get along like a house on fire.”
Having already completed two shooting schedules for the film, Balan revealed her dedication to understanding the director’s vision and immersing herself in the world of the story. She stressed the importance of approaching Manjulika with a fresh perspective, acknowledging that a character evolves over time.
For the unversed, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is set to release on Diwali 2024, It also stars Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri.
