Priyadarshan Shuts Down Bhooth Bangla Franchise Talk, Teases Akshay Kumar Film Has A ‘biggest ends ever’

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s long awaited reunion with Bhooth Bangla is already being sold on scale, but the filmmaker is drawing a clear line when it comes to sequel chatter. On March 15, 2026, Priyadarshan revealed that he is not interested in expanding the horror comedy into a franchise, even as he promised audiences a finale designed to leave a lasting aftertaste.

The update comes at a time when the genre is enjoying a strong theatrical pull, and when the Akshay Kumar Priyadarshan pairing is being closely watched for its crowd pleasing rhythm.

Priyadarshan On Why He Is Not Chasing A Bhooth Bangla Franchise

In an interview, Priyadarshan said that once he completes the film he was assigned to direct, he does not see himself taking it forward as a series. He did, however, leave the decision open for the producers to build on the property without him. “Maybe, Ektaa can take it forward,” he said, referring to producer Ektaa R Kapoor.

Priyadarshan also singled out key performances from the ensemble. He praised Rajpal Yadav’s work, saying, “He is hilarious in the film and a character you will remember.” He further underscored Tabu’s importance to the narrative, stating, “Without Tabu’s character, there’s no logic in the story,” while also noting that she “looks as beautiful in it as she did in Virasat.”

The Climax Promise, Smiles First, Then The Eeriness

Priyadarshan’s biggest tease was reserved for the final stretch of Bhooth Bangla. Speaking about the film’s closing moments, he said, “People will smile and then the eeriness will creep in. The climax is one of the biggest ends ever shot on a huge canvas.”

Bhooth Bangla is a Hindi fantasy horror comedy directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Akshay Kumar, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor, with Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films backing the project. The film features Akshay Kumar alongside Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Wamiqa Gabbi, with other cast members including Mithila Palkar, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, and Jisshu Sengupta. The makers have locked April 10, 2026 for its theatrical release.
