Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla has officially changed its release plan, and the new rollout is now locked. The horror comedy will arrive in cinemas on April 17, 2026, while paid previews will begin at 9 pm on April 16, giving the film an early start on the big screen and bringing fresh momentum to one of the season’s closely watched Hindi releases.
The update was confirmed by producer Ektaa Kapoor, ending speculation around the film’s release window and underlining a coordinated industry decision. The shift comes after consultations with distribution partners and exhibitors, with the makers choosing to move the film by a week rather than crowd an already active theatrical corridor.
Why The Release Plan Changed
In her statement, Ektaa Kapoor said, “After an extensive discussion and multiple requests from our distribution partner & exhibitors across key markets, we have decided to postpone the release of Bhooth Bangla by one week. We remain committed to delivering a great cinematic experience and are confident that this decision will benefit audiences and let the film have a powerful run at the cinemas.”
Kapoor also noted that Dhurandhar: The Revenge is enjoying a strong box office run, and exhibitors felt it was better to give that film a clear window while allowing Bhooth Bangla its own focused release frame. The message from the team was straightforward: the revised date is intended to give both films proper theatrical space instead of forcing a direct clash for screens and attention.
That also explains the paid preview strategy. By opening select shows on the night of April 16, the makers are creating an immediate launchpad before the film’s full-scale release a day later.
Priyadarshan And Akshay Kumar Reunite For Horror Comedy
Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla marks another collaboration between the filmmaker and Akshay Kumar, a pairing strongly associated with broad-based Hindi entertainers. This time, they are stepping into horror comedy, with the film mounted as a theatrical crowd-pleaser backed by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Cape of Good Films.
The ensemble cast includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, Mithila Palkar, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, and Rajesh Sharma. The story is credited to Aakash Kaushik, while the screenplay has been written by Rohan Shankar, Abilash Nair, and Priyadarshan. The film’s promotional material points to a mix of spooky atmospherics, comic confusion, and a familiar mainstream tone shaped for a theatrical audience.
With the new date in place and paid previews beginning a night earlier, the makers have now given Bhooth Bangla a clearly defined release pattern, one designed to launch the film with focused screen space and an early audience entry point.
