Siddhant Chaturvedi‘s highly ambitious action creature film has been shelved. The project, which was being developed by Netflix India, was expected to be a one-of-a-kind movie in Hindi cinema but has now been put on hold indefinitely. The primary reason behind this decision is reported to be major budget issues.
What Was Ramree All About?
Tentatively titled Ramree, the film was a two-hero project set in the year 1945. This unique genre of an action creature film set in a historical period had generated a lot of curiosity. The movie was set to star Siddhant Chaturvedi alongside the talented Mohit Raina in the lead roles. The project was being backed by superstar Ajay Devgn as a producer and was supposed to be the directorial debut of Neha Sharma, who previously wrote scripts for films like The Zoya Factor and Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive.
Why The Film Was Shelved
According to sources, the film had been in the works for over a year. Given its unique subject and period setting, it was a very expensive project to begin with. A source revealed that while the heads at the streaming platform were excited about the story, the financial investment required was simply too high for an OTT-only release. The budget constraints became a major hurdle, and despite the film’s potential to set a new benchmark in scale and imagination, the platform decided not to move forward with it due to the high financial risk.
A Natural Part of the Creative Process
While the news is unfortunate, an industry insider shared that this is a common occurrence in the streaming world. Many ideas are explored and developed, but not all of them make it to the production stage. A project is only considered fully greenlit once the cameras start rolling. The source added that Ramree was an idea in development that did not move forward, which is a natural part of the creative process where some concepts take shape and others don’t. Fans will now have to wait to see Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mohit Raina share the screen in another project.
